Thursday Book Review: Lone Wolf and Cub Volume 8

by Joseph Carlson

The plot against the Itto Clan was finally revealed in full in this volume.  Why the Yagyu clan betrayed Ogami and ultimately why The Lone Wolf and Cub walk the demon's road.  This was another high-action issue of the above mentioned series.

As Ogami Itto travels the land he contemplates the events that took place and also, again, it seems that the Yagyu clan is finally at its wits end trying to figure out how to kill The Wolf.  The also state in the novel how many men Ogami Itto has killed.  So far 26, which seems to be the amount of men directly tied to the Yagyu clan, not the men that The Lone Wolf and Cub have taken on for contracts.

There were a few mercy kills on the road, one of them had to do with a woman whose husband was killed by our hero-assassin.  She wanted vengeance and challenges him to a duel.  In a bold move Itto even allows her to hit him.  The Yagyu once again take a chance against Ogami's life and fail, but seeing that they truly are perfect assassins in the duel, he is truly fearful of their ability.

Ogami tells a man of what it is like to walk the demon's road and the loneliness that consumes you.  The man then sacrifices his life to help The Lone Wolf in Cub against some very dangerous Ninja.  Moving to say the least.

Lone Wolf and Cub is available in bookstores and digitally
