When this movie was announced I was very excited to see it. Not only was the cast great, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, but the idea that nine villains could ultimately be the anti-hero's of the movie was very appealing. In the end though I would have to say that the movie felt very dis-jointed and rushed.
Don't get me wrong there was a lot to like about this movie. The chemistry between Harley and Deadshot was great. And for the most part most of the cast worked well together. Amanda Waller was a truly cold character. The villain, in the beginning was very interesting, but in the end it just turned into another beat-em-up.
I'm not going to go on and on about how I think this movie was really terrible. Many people have already done that and to great length. On Monday I wrote about how it really doesn't matter what you think because the movie already made 572 million dollars worldwide. I will say this though, it seems like DC needs to get someone in there and really try to pull things together.
Although every Marvel movie isn't spectacular, that at least have an overall narrative they are going for. I mean heck even if I didn't really like Thor 2 or Avengers 2 the goal post was moved a bit and some of the things that happened in those movies got us to Guardians of the Galaxy or Civil War, both of which were great.
DC seems to want to go in separate directions each movie. Everything seems like a reboot of something or a rehash. Some of the cameos they put in Suicide Squad were neat and now it seems like they are trying to bring some of the characters together, but really it just seems like it's maybe for the Justice League movie.
In the end, I don't think Suicide Squad worked out the way that DC wanted it to. Maybe with the new Wonder Woman movie or the above mentioned Justice League movie, or with the solo Batman movie this might be the way DC can get back on track.
Let me know in the comments below what you think.
