So E3 was finished up in L.A. a few weeks ago and there was talk all over the internet about who won the show or who had the best booth. Some sites even went as far as telling everyone(their opinion anyway) that E3 is a dying beast. That they should pack it in. Because of the internet and Twitch streamers and Twitter that maybe E3 isn't relevant anymore.
Now while I kind of agree with what many people are saying about the rise of the internet and all those other places are changing the way we consume media I completely disagree that E3 is totally dying in anyway shape or form.
I'm not some corporate shill, for from it. I live far away from the convention and have only seen the reveal trailers like most people, that is, through the internet. If you go to their website though(www.e3expo.com) and l have, you will be blown away by the amount of coverage they can support. There is interviews with developers, live demos, the conferences with game publishers, and lets not forget the booths.
I would have to say that Nintendo alone would probably get an award unto itself for making their booth for the new Legend of Zelda game look like some kind of theme park attraction. Sony had a full orchestra at their press conference.
I'll repeat that: An orchestra
I'll be honest, I am one man. I could not totally cover E3 in one day and instead sat online and read articles from people who had a lot more resources then I did. I'm still sifting through days and days of coverage.
That's my point though. There is so much information to come out in four days that if E3 was to somehow shut down then I don't know where all those announcements go. The one thing about E3 that you can say is it's a date to mark on your calendar. We all know it's the one time and place you can go to and gets tons of information about everything you'd want to know about upcoming releases.
I don't want it to go away. I love being able to find out info as it gets released. I used to have to wait for days to get write ups from my favorite gaming sites to find out what was released there and what was coming out in the future. Now things happen in real time. People can update you as things are happening.
I'm just a big kid I guess, and this is my Christmas. Don't take it away from me.
